![]() Step 1. Find position for your Deck fitting. The point of most "beam " on your boat will give the best result. The Deck fitting can be mounted either on the Deck or on the side of your cabin (see figure 7) or on the capping rail (see figure 3). All of these positions need to be directly below a secure spot on the cabin roof or at the base of the flybridge (see figure 1 & 8). If you are not sure of the best position for your deck fitting Ocean Torque suggests photographing your boat ( from the side) and sending the photograph to us for free advice. You could also contact your local shipwright ,marine engineer or surveyor. If your hand rail runs the length of your boat and you wish to stow your booms in the upright position (see figure 9) Ocean Torque suggests installing a gate.(see figure6). See your local stainless steel fabricator.
Step 2. When you are sure of the position of your deck fitting ,scribe it's position including the holes , ensuring you have access to the nuts on the other side then drill holes and fix . Step 3. Main Eye Bolt This fitting must be fixed directly above the the deck fitting at least 600 mm or more (see figure 8 and 1) When your eye bolt is fixed securely to the base of the fly bridge or roof beam, attach the boom to the deck fitting and you are ready to adjust the angle your boom will always be set. When you're satisfied with the angle of your boom (5 to 10 deg.above the horizontal ) you then fix the rope using the thimble and swage supplied (see figure 10) Crimp the copper swage and cut the rope to length. Step 4. Forward Stay Swage a loop at a length that will allow you to simply attach it to a bollard somewhere towards the front of your boat. (see figure 4)
Step 5. The Aft Tension Line - This line must be ferrelled through the eyebolt supplied.(See figure 2).or through a scupper hole (see fig 5). This ferrell needs to be a minimum 300 mm below and aft of the deck fitting. When this line is pulled tight and tied off it will give tension to all bracing lines. Step 6. The suspension line is attached to the Boom at one end and the Stabilizer at the other. Warning : Be sure to attach the lazy line to your
stabilizer before deployment. Alow your stabilizer to start working, then take up the
slack on the lazy line until you just feel the weight of the tail end of the chain, |
